More renting fun
We have a new (or, actually, old-and-unresolved) water pipe problem in the house. I’ve let our landlord know, but he may not even be in the country right now. It only worries me because I feel like he’s only going to blame us/me for doing something to the pipes that would cause sewage issues, when it’s clear that these problems predate our move here. I don’t stuff undisposable stuff down the disposal (hell, I barely use the thing ever since we had the original problems), I don’t do anything out of the ordinary with the clothes washer - I pretty much run the household in the exact same way I’ve run households, with no ill effect whatsoever, for the last 20 or-so years. Add to that the fact that I’m actually hopelessly neat and generally keep things clean, and I just don’t see how this is my/our fault. I kind of wonder if there’s not a serious oil clog somewhere; I don’t think it was our landlord so much as people before him, but when we moved the walls and the overhead fan were absolutely dripping with oil - I actually had to wipe down the walls and they turned a different color when I did. I can’t help but think whoever managed to do that also managed to pour grease down the drain…but it’s just a theory.
In the meantime, the nasty smell that was coming from around the sink is now back, after I thought I’d gotten rid of it for good. And it’s a little bit worse now, since it now smells like the black gunk that came up through the drain when I did the laundry. Sigh.
Oh well, there’s not much worth getting worked up about. I managed to somehow get rid of the actual raw sewage (food or crap, you tell me - all I know is it stank to high heaven), scrubbed out the kitchen sink, and I’m not going to do any more laundry until I know that I’m not going to have a massive water event on my hands. But I don’t need this. I treat the house well, I’m a clean person, and I just want our landlord to take a little responsibility for a problem that’s pretty much been ongoing, in one form or another, ever since we moved in.
